The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Saint Peter’s University Hospital offers expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide spectrum of disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, as well as the pancreas, liver and biliary tract including:

  • Heartburn
  • Barret’s disease
  • Swallowing disorders
  • Ulcer disease
  • Celiac disease
  • Pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer
  • Bile duct and gallbladder disease
  • Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Fatty liver disease and alcohol-related liver disease

The team is able to offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary care working with experts in the fields of radiology, surgery, radiation and medical oncology.

Academic accomplishments include full accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The Division also is home to a three-year gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship. Two highly skilled, motivated clinicians train per year.

The Division’s new full-service, GI Motility and GERD Therapy Lab diagnoses complex heartburn and swallowing disorders.
 

Our staff annually performs thousands of minimally invasive endoscopic procedures. These procedures include upper endoscopy, colonoscopy and small bowel capsule. In addition our physicians’ training and expertise is focused on diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts as well as pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, ampulla, colon, pancreas, bile ducts and liver). They specialize in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), fine needle aspiration (FNA), biliary and pancreatic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), complex polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection and ablation. In addition they perform luminal stenting (esophagus, gastroduodenal, colonic), small bowel capsule evaluation and balloon enteroscopy.
