Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Pain Program

Urinary incontinence and pelvic pain dysfunction is treated with a program of physical therapy consisting of biofeedback, education and therapeutic exercises in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Saint Peter’s University Hospital.

Biofeedback is used to improve awareness of the use of the pelvic floor musculature. Each session is individualized according to the biofeedback findings initial evaluation. Our emphasis is on a home management program to control and prevent incontinence. Biofeedback also is used to teach pelvic floor relaxation to patients who suffer from acute or chronic pelvic pain. Manual techniques for pelvic pain patients can be used in conjunction with the biofeedback where indicated. We feel that therapy with a physical therapist that is trained to evaluate and treat the neuromuscular system is the ideal setting for successful and conservative treatment of urinary incontinence or pelvic pain.

If you suffer from urinary incontinence or pelvic pain, we encourage you to consider Saint Peter’s University Hospital for an individualized program including biofeedback, manual techniques, therapeutic exercises and progression to self-management of your symptoms. Our staff understands the importance of independence, control, prevention and wellness. We would like to assist you on your road to recovery.

Contact our department at 732-745-8570 with any questions or if you are interested in scheduling an appointment. Appointments will be approximately one hour and each session will be performed by a licensed and trained physical therapist. A prescription from a physician is required to initiate therapy and, depending on your insurance, a referral may also be necessary. Appointments are available Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Other days and times may be available upon request.
