The Business of Medicine
Today’s physician needs to be an astute businessman. Physicians directly or indirectly control 17 percent of the national gross domestic product. Physicians are the custodians of decreasing resources. A business curriculum is woven into our daily clinical activities. We have adopted and embraced the Choosing Wisely campaign to reduce waste.
Lectures are given on how to establish a practice, find a position and how to review a contract. Seminars with legal and financial experts are offered on a regular basis.
In addition, selected residents participate and receive a mini-MBA certificate from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The Rutgers School of Management teaches the mini-MBA program on site. It is run by world-class faculty. It is taught during 13 half-day sessions from August to October. The curriculum is specifically designed to understand and enhance the business skills of health care personnel.
