Saint Peter’s Healthcare System Recognizes 2024 Healthcare Champions at Annual Gala

New Brunswick, N.J. – June 10, 2024 – Saint Peter’s Healthcare System celebrated its community partners and physicians whose dedication to the hospital, its patients, and the community at-large were recognized at its annual gala held Saturday, May 11, at The Palace at Somerset. The Bishop’s Award recognizes a member of the community while the Physician’s Appreciation Award acknowledges physicians. This year’s honorees are:

Richard Malouf, founder of Malouf Automotive Group, has been on the Saint Peter’s Foundation Board of Trustees since 2017 and has been a long-time supporter of Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Generations of the Malouf family have been born at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, and he credits his family as his most proud accomplishment.
For over 35 years, Malouf has committed to advancing healthcare services for the community by supporting Saint Peter’s operating room expansion project, fundraising events such as the Golf Classic, and hosting annual toy drives benefitting pediatric patients and their families. In addition, Malouf has continued to serve the greater Middlesex region by supporting organizations such as The Valerie Fund, Lions Club, Italian-American Club of North Brunswick, Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Central Jersey Blood Center.
“I believe in investing not just in healthcare infrastructure, but in the hearts of our community. Whether it's expanding operating rooms or hosting toy drives, every effort counts toward a healthier, happier future for everyone,” said Malouf.
Dr. David Harwood’s path to become a physician began when he took a job at Princeton House at Princeton Hospital. After graduating from Princeton University, Dr. Harwood obtained his medical degree from UMDNJ Rutgers Medical School and completed an internship at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Following his residency at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, he completed a fellowship specializing in joint replacement and arthritis surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In addition, Dr. Harwood presently serves as partner at University Orthopaedic Associates in Somerset and section chief of Orthopaedics at Saint Peter’s University Hospital.
An innovator in the field of joint replacement surgery for many years, he is involved in an ongoing basis with clinical trials for patients with degenerative knee diseases. Dr. Harwood serves as a speaker at regional, national, and international scientific meetings.
"Understanding that each patient presents a special chance to make a difference, my proudest moment as a physician is witnessing my patients’ physical recovery,” said Dr. Harwood.
Dr. William J. Lowe III completed his medical degree and post graduate training in obstetrics and gynecology at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He trained at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, returning after 10 years of working in a community health center and private practice. He presently serves as vice chair in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and holds academic appointments at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Saint George’s Medical School. As a physician, Dr. Lowe takes great pride in educating and mentoring other physicians, from residents to seasoned physicians, advanced practice providers and nursing staff. His dedication to collaboration and patient care has earned him numerous awards at Saint Peter’s including the Physician Partnership Award, Physician of the Month, and Resident Teacher of the Year.
“I find my purpose by providing exceptional care to the patients I treat during their most vulnerable times. My work ethic and mantra are to accomplish something every day and celebrate it,” said Dr. Lowe.
