Saint Peter’s Physical Rehabilitation Services offers comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services to children and adults with hearing impairments and disorders resulting from injury, disease or other causes as well as evaluation for vestibular and balance disorders for all age groups ranging from infants to the geriatric population. Diagnostic testing procedures and services are available by appointment.
Our licensed audiologist holds a clinical doctoral degree and certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). Services include hearing (audiological) evaluations, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, auditory steady state response testing (ASSR) and auditory processing disorder examinations.
Children are evaluated for auditory processing disorder when they have difficulty with one or more behaviors:
- Hearing in noisy situations
- Following long conversations
- Remembering spoken information
- Taking notes
- Maintaining focus on an activity if other sounds are present
- Following multi-step directions
- Directing, sustaining or dividing attention
- Reading and/or spelling
Audiology therapy services for children and adults include:
- Hearing (audiological) evaluation
- Tympanometry and acoustic reflex
- Auditory evoked response (ABR/BAER), reflecting the activity levels of the cochlea, and auditory nerve and auditory brainstem pathways
- Auditory steady state response (ASSR), testing the function of the auditory nerve in young children where behavioral testing is inconclusive
- Otoacoustic emissions testing (OAE)
- Hearing aid fitting, programming, and dispensing of hearing aids and related devices to suit all types of hearing loss and lifestyles.
