Saint Peter’s University Hospital offers one-on-one nutritional counseling for patients before and after weight loss surgery. During your individual counseling session, the nutritionist will evaluate your diet along with existing medical/health conditions, current medications, laboratory results, and past attempts at losing weight. With the nutritionist, you will agree upon your desired goal weight and overall weight loss expectations. In addition, you will receive education regarding the post-surgery nutrition plan. Patients who have already had bariatric surgery may benefit from a nutrition counseling session too. At the post surgery session, the nutritionist will discuss weight loss history, food selection, and meal preparation. Individual goals will be reviewed and modified as needed.
Free bariatric support groups are available before and after surgery. Support groups are conducted by a registered dietitian nutritionist and are offered the second Thursday of every month. The support groups are offered both in Spanish and in English. To obtain a list of dates and times for support groups held at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, please call: 732.339.7450.
