Meet the Heartburn and Reflux Center Team
Carlos Aitor Macias​, MD Carlos Aitor Macias, MD, MPH, is a minimally invasive surgeon whose specialties include the treatment of heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux. He is an expert in the LINX® Reflux Management System, a minimally invasive surgical treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
A native of Argentina, Dr. Macias obtained his medical degree at the University of Buenos Aires. He completed a postdoctoral research fellowship and a Master’s Degree in Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. At the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (currently Rutgers University), he completed his general surgery residency. During his training, he was recognized with prestigious awards, including the Achievement Award of the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. He completed a fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at University of California at San Diego.
Dr. Macias is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery; he is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons (SLS).

Sugirdhana Velpari, MD is a graduate of the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed both his internal medicine residency and his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His interests include colon cancer prevention, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and functional bowel disorders. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Association.
Kelly Del Rosario, RN, BSN, is the Center’s nurse navigator. She provides patients with support services from diagnosis to treatment. Once she has welcomed patients and gathered all necessary information, Kelly books appointments with the physician that can best assess a patient’s health needs. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah.
