Jewish Patient Services

At Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, we are committed to providing expert and compassionate care to all patients. We understand and respect patients’ religious and cultural needs. Our staff can provide services that will make it possible for you to practice your Jewish faith during your stay.

Our patient navigator in the Department of Medicine at Saint Peter’s University Hospital works as a liaison between Saint Peter’s and the Jewish community, providing support and comfort and help navigating Saint Peter’s Healthcare System services. Saint Peter’s Department of Pastoral Care can help facilitate the practice of religious rituals.

Meet Our Patient Navigator 

Rena Goldsmith Klein is a patient navigator in the Department of Medicine at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. She provides a unique service to patients as the liaison between Saint Peter’s and the Jewish community. Rena supports patients and families by providing educational materials, making connections to community resources, and helping families to navigate Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. Rena earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Barnard College and a Master of Arts in Public Health from Columbia University, both in New York City. Rena is passionate about serving as an advocate, providing support and quality, patient-centered care.

Services at Saint Peter's 

1. Bikur Cholim Hospitality Center is located on the fourth floor off of the main elevator next to Labor and Delivery. Food, snacks, coffee, religious books, as well as Jewish publications are available. Electric candles are available for Shabbos and holidays
2. Inpatient Kosher food offerings from Saint Peter’s Room Service menu
3. Kosher Keurig coffee machine for patients having outpatient procedures located in the Endoscopy Suite on the second floor of the main hospital
4. Sleeping accommodations at Rutgers University Chabad House, 170 College Avenue, when classes are in session
5. Shofar blowing can be arranged for Rosh Hashana 
6. Sukkah is available during the holiday of Sukkot
7. Rabbis available through the Pastoral Care Department
8. Manual door to the left of the hospital main entrance for entry on Shabbos and holidays
