Osteoporosis/Bone Density
The Health Center for Women, located in the Center for Ambulatory Resources (CARES), treats health and wellness issues that affect women of all ages. The Women's Imaging Center offers mammography and other diagnostic breast services, including stereotactic biopsy and needle localization, ultrasound, and bone density scanning for osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis, or bone loss and deterioration of the skeletal system, is a silent disease. It affects three times more women than breast cancer, but many women are unaware of their risk. We offer bone densitometry imaging with our new state-of-the-art GE Prodigy Advance scanning system. The system's fan beam technology allows for a precise diagnosis of osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is preventable, and when diagnosed in pre-symptomatic early stages, treatment can prevent additional bone loss and keep patients active and healthy.
