Pediatric Nephrology
The diagnosis, treatment and management of kidney and hypertensive disorders in young children and adolescents is provided by the staff of the Division of Pediatric Nephrology at The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Among the disorders treated is hypertension – or high blood pressure. Once thought to be more of an adult condition, it is estimated that between three and five percent of children suffer from the condition -- and those numbers appear to be rising. Although genetics and underlying conditions such as sleep apnea and diabetes can play a role in the development of hypertension, the driving force appears to be obesity.
