Telehealth Services at Saint Peter’s University Hospital

Telehealth and Telemedicine are terms that are often used interchangeably, but while Telemedicine, by most definitions, refers specifically to clinical diagnosis and chronic disease monitoring provided remotely by a physician, Telehealth includes a wider range of services including patient education, counseling, and management by other medically-trained providers as well as continuing medical education and training for physicians.

Telemedicine improves access to care, particularly when barriers such as geography, transportation, limited patient ambulation, home ventilator support, immunodeficiency, or other chronic medical problems are present. Telemedicine also facilitates patient monitoring, which can improve patient compliance. Telehealth allows us to communicate with and advise colleagues around the United States and the world, who are seeking consultations and expertise from medical specialists that may not be readily available or accessible.
